Training for Landmine Survivors in Banja Luka 🐝

From March 23 to 27, 2026, a five-day training program for mine victims was held in Banja Luka. The initiative aimed to enhance participants’ knowledge and strengthen their competencies in the field of beekeeping. The program prepared them for the role of instructors, enabling them to share their expertise with other beekeepers who have similar experiences through professional and structured methods. 🐝

The training was conducted by instructors from the Beekeeping Academy of the Agricultural Institute of Slovenia. It covered key aspects of successful beekeeping, including fundamentals for beginners, swarm prevention, queen breeding, harvesting and use of bee products, expansion of apiaries for personal needs. To further promote regional cooperation and establish a professional network, this year’s program also included a practical workshop on apitherapy and apicosmetics, conducted by the Academy of Beekeeping and Apitherapy of Serbia. 🍯

During the training, participants were visited by the Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia to Bosnia and Herzegovina, H.E. Damijan Sedar, and the Consul of the Republic of Slovenia, Zvone Žigon. Their visit highlights the importance of such initiatives in fostering international cooperation and supporting vulnerable groups.

The program is implemented within the project Beekeeping as an empowerment tool for land mine victims in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The project is carried out in partnership with ITF Enhancing Human Security, UDAS of the Republic of Srpska, and the Agricultural Institute of Slovenia, with financial support from the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia and donations from the Republic of Korea.
